Cheesy Steak & Ale Pie Recipe
This dish is a true winter warmer recipe, hearty and appetizing, it is perfect for them cold evenings this year. You will need:
- A Large Pan
- A Knife
- A Chopping board
- A Jug
- Baking Paper
- A Pie dish
- A Pastry brush
- A Large Wooden Spoon
- A Cheese Grater
Ingredients:
- Oil
- 4 Cloves of Garlic
- 400g Mushrooms
- 2 Red Onions
- 550g Diced Steak
- Salt & Pepper (to taste)
- 1 "Look in my sack" Premium Golden Ale
- 2 Heaped table spoons of flour
- 100ml Boiling water
- 1 Beef Stock cube
- 2 Sheets of Shortcrust Pastry
- 1 Ale & Mustard Cheddar Truckle
- 1 Egg (to wash)
- Gravy (of your choice)
Method:

Heat a generous drizzle of oil in a large pan over a medium heat.

Add your chopped mushrooms, chopped onions, and four cloves of garlic to the pan, stirring regularly.

One slightly browned, add in the diced steak, and season with a little salt and pepper to taste.

Once browned off, pour in a bottle of “Look in my Sack” Premium Golden Ale, and 100ml of Beef Stock.

Stir generously, and reduce the heat to simmer for 1.30 hours.

Whilst simmering, preheat the oven to 200°C/Gas Mark 6/392°F.

Take your pie dish and line it with baking paper, ensuring all sides are covered.

Add one sheet of shortcrust pastry to the dish to cover the bottom and sides.

Once the filling is cooked, pour this into the pastry.

Grate the Ale & Mustard Cheddar Truckle and sprinkle the over the filling.

Top your filling with the second sheet of shortcrust pastry, making sure the two sides of pastry are joined together.

Beat the egg in a bowl, and brush the pastry with the egg ensuring it is all covered.

Place into the oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven, serve with lashings of gravy, and enjoy!
